Mother of the Bride Dresses in London, Ontario

Planning a wedding takes a great deal of attention, and by the time the gown is chosen and the bridal party is sorted, the mother of the bride dress is often the last thing left on the list. We hear this from mothers all the time!

They are looking for something elegant and comfortable that suits the day, works alongside the bridal party, and still feels like them.

If you have been looking for mother of the bride dresses in London, Ontario, we would like to show you another way to approach it.

At La Rose, we design and make custom mother of the bride dresses at our boutique in Komoka, just minutes from West London, Strathroy, and Mount Brydges. Every dress is made from scratch to your own measurements, in the colour, fabric, and silhouette you choose.

Where to shop for mother of the bride dresses in London, Ontario?

Most shops in our area sell finished dresses in standard sizing. You choose from what is on the rack, and the dress is then adjusted toward you. That approach suits some mothers, though it does mean the dress you had in mind has to already exist somewhere, in close to your size, in a colour that works with the wedding.

La Rose works differently. We are a custom dress house first. Along with our custom wedding gowns, we make bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride dresses, flower girl dresses, prom dresses, graduation dresses, and formal occasion wear, all designed with style, fit, and attention to detail. Your dress is not taken from a rack and altered. It is made for you from the beginning!

Why a custom dress fits differently!

Standard sizing is built around an average, and very few of us are the average. That is why a dress from a rack so often needs work through the bust, or sits wrong at the waist, or has a sleeve length made for someone else.

Once we have finalized the direction of your dress, we take detailed measurements, and your dress goes into production from there. When it is completed, we invite you back for your fitting and try on. In most cases the dress fits nearly perfectly thanks to accurate measurements, quality workmanship, and careful execution. If any final adjustments are needed, we offer professional alterations to achieve the best possible fit.

It also means the details are yours to decide. Silhouette, neckline, sleeve length, back detail, fabric, the amount of lace and appliqué, and how much movement you would like in the skirt. If comfort matters most to you, we design for comfort. If you would like a statement sleeve, we can do that too.

I cannot thank the team at La Rose enough for designing and making my dream wedding dress!

What colour should the mother of the bride wear?

This is the question we are asked most often. There is no strict rule, though there are a few conventions most mothers follow. White and ivory are generally left to the bride, and the exact shade the bridesmaids are wearing is generally left to them, so the two groups stay distinct in photographs. Beyond that, the choice is yours.

Because we make your dress rather than order it, colour is not a limitation. Visit our shop to see our sample dresses and explore over 150 colour options and premium fabrics, including chiffon, satin, velvet, and tulle. If the bride has already set a palette, we can work directly to it. If she has not, we can help you choose a tone that suits you and sits well with the bridal party, the flowers, and the venue.

Sizing

We do not carry a standard size range or a separate plus size range, because every dress we make is made from scratch to your personal measurements. Rather than searching for the one style that comes in your size, you choose the style you want and we make it to fit you.

When to start looking for your dress?

We recommend starting six to eight months before the event date. A custom dress order takes about four months to be made from the date your order is confirmed, and starting early leaves time for the consultation, production, fittings, and final adjustments.

For select designs we also offer a rush order option with an approximate two month timeline. Rush orders are not accepted less than three months before the event date, so if the wedding is close, please come and speak with us soon.

What a custom mother of the bride dress costs?

Pricing depends on the design, fabrics, and level of detail involved. Our formal dresses, which is where a mother of the bride dress sits, typically range from $300 to $800. Our bespoke custom wedding gowns generally range from $1,200 to $2,500.

Catherine was truly a gem, working with her was a great pleasure, and I will continue to recommend her and her work to others!!

How the custom dress process works?

  1. To begin, book an in store consultation through our website. This is where we get to know your vision, style, and the wedding plans.

  2. Bring your ideas with you. You are the designer. Bring photos, inspiration ideas, sketches, or details of the dream dress you have in mind. The more ideas you bring, the better we can guide the design.

  3. We walk you through the process step by step and discuss silhouettes and necklines, fabric, appliqué and lace options, sleeve, neckline and back details, comfort, movement and fit, and your budget and design priorities.

  4. Once the direction is finalized, we take detailed measurements.

  5. Your order is sent into our dressmaking production. We only proceed once you feel confident in the final design and have a clear understanding of the overall look and details of your dress.

  6. When the dress is completed, we invite you back for your fitting and try on, make any final adjustments, and your dress is ready to take home.

Alterations on dresses made elsewhere?

If you have already bought a dress and it is not sitting the way you hoped, we offer professional alterations on many dresses that were not made by La Rose, including wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, graduation dresses, and other formalwear. Alteration services depend on the design, fabric, structure, and timeline of the dress. We recommend booking a dress consultation so we can assess the garment and discuss the best options with you.
